About Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)
Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a common disorder affecting many people. Sweaty palms are the most common form of hyperhidrosis.
This disorder can also cause excessive foot, underarm and facial sweating. It is thought that excessive sweating is a result of over activity of the sympathetic nervous system.
Sweating is often uncontrollable, embarrassing and not anticipated. Normal sweating is needed for thermal regulation, however, in people suffering from hyperhidrosis, sweating exceeds the body’s actual needs.
Treating Hyperhidrosis With Botox
Botox is an easy and effective treatment for Hyperhidrosis. Dr. Chernoff has successfully treated many patients suffering from excessive sweating.
Botox acts by temporally blocking neurotransmitters that stimulate sweat production. Botox is injected directly into the area producing sweat. A decrease in sweating is noted after the injections. Treatments are needed every 4-6 months.
