Juvederm is a smooth gel injectable filler comprised of hyaluronic acid. It can be used to smooth wrinkles, smile lines, acne scars and other skin imperfections and plump the lips, with results lasting up to one year with a single treatment.
The injection is administered during a simple, quick office visit. There is minimal pain during treatment as the Juvederm XC formula contains lidocaine and an additional topical numbing cream is used.

Ideal Candidates for Juvederm
Anyone seeking immediate improvement of lines on each side of the mouth known as “smile lines”. Patients interested in enhancing the volume or shape of the lips, may be candidates for treatment with Juvederm. Juvederm is also a good solution for individuals who are looking to improve the appearance of acne scars or other scars or skin imperfections.
What Happens During the Injectable Treatment
Treatment with Juvederm is quick, lasting just fifteen to twenty minutes on average. A topical numbing cream is first applied to the injection site. There are no incisions made. Instead, a fine needle is used to inject the substance beneath the skin’s surface. After injection, ice is applied and pressure is placed on the injection site to help minimize bruising. Slight swelling is normal at the injection sight. Swelling may be more pronounced in the lips when Juvederm is used for lip augmentation. Swelling typically fades within an hour or two after treatment.
Dr. Chernoff and his staff are committed to ensuring that your procedure is a safe one without risks. Patients can return to work and most other normal activities immediately. However, some patients prefer to ice the area first. Some patients experience mild to moderate bruising, as well as swelling, but these side effects typically resolve quickly. Patients receiving any injectable are seen one week post-injection. Visit us to learn about your options including Juvederm, Kybella, and Botox.
