About Mini Facelifts
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and the underlying facial muscles weaken, resulting in sagging jowls and the development of excess fat and skin beneath the chin. These aging signs can be corrected with a mini facelift to restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
The mini facelift is a less invasive surgical procedure, which allows individuals to improve the appearance of the lower face and jowls without undergoing a more extensive traditional facelift.
There are many different names, which refer to the basic technique of the mini facelift, including the Weekend Facelift, Quicklift, Quick Facelift, Lifestyle Lift, Lifestyle Facelift, Short Scar Facelift and others. While there may be some slight variation among these different procedures, they generally involve less extensive incisions as indicated by the name and general anesthesia is typically not required. Additionally, the names indicate the recovery time is less which is true for the “Mini Facelift” we offer at our center.
At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery we offer all mini facelift procedures and will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan that best addresses your individual needs.
The mini facelift is an ideal procedure for healthy men and women who are looking to improve mild to moderate sagging and/or jowling of the lower face and/or neck. This surgery can be performed in the office, operating suite, or in an outpatient surgery center. Depending on the extent of the procedure, the surgery may take between one and three hours to complete. Incisions are small and are located around the ear lobe and mid-ear. Dr. Chernoff is meticulous about placing the incision so that the resulting scar is small and virtually invisible.
In fact, patients who undergo a mini facelift or traditional facelift with Dr. Chernoff are able to wear their hair up and off their face with no one able to tell that they’ve had surgery. Once the incision is made, the doctor will then gently lift and tighten the underlying connective tissue and facial musculature before removing excess skin and carefully closing the incision. Dr. Chernoff uses a special suturing technique when closing the incision to reduce tension and minimize visible scarring.
In some cases, ultrasonic-assisted fat removal techniques may also be used on the neck and jowl area to achieve optimal aesthetic results.
The mini facelift provides immediate, long-lasting improvement in the appearance of the jaw line and upper neck. The recovery following a mini facelift is shorter and less extensive than after a traditional full facelift. Patients are able to return to work within four to seven days after surgery, and sometimes sooner depending on the extent of the procedure. Many patients experience little to no pain and only mild swelling and slight discomfort during the first few days of recovery.
After one week, all signs of surgery are nearly gone and patients are able to enjoy their new jaw and neckline. Stitches are removed after one week. Moderate exercise can be resumed after a few days and more strenuous exercise after one to two weeks.
When it comes to recovery, Dr. Chernoff and his caring nurses are very serious about follow-up care. They are dedicated to ensuring their patients heal properly and with minimal complication. Dr. Chernoff and his nurses even see patients for follow-up care on Saturdays and Sundays to offer assurance that any incisions are healing well. While there are risks and complications associated with any surgical procedure, complications are rare with the mini facelift and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
