Kind and friendly dogs may bite if they are provoked or feel threatened. These injuries vary dramatically in severity from minor skin tears to deep tissue trauma. Dr. Chernoff has treated and repaired extremely complex dog bites. Bites to the face can be devastating for both adults and children. When needed, Dr. Chernoff will use advanced skin flap techniques to surgically repair the damaged or missing tissue.

Dr. Chernoff uses a multi-modality approach for healing incisions that involve growth factor treatments, advanced light-based therapies, topical gels, and healing skin barriers. These treatments combined with his meticulous suturing technique, result in incisions that are barely visible. After repairing the injury, Dr. Chernoff often prescribes antibiotics when treating dog bites to minimize the risk of infection.

Lacerations, or cuts can occur from sharp objects or by hitting your face or body during a fall. Not all cuts require stiches/sutures. The size, depth, and location of the cut determines if stitches will help or shorten the healing process. Dr. Chernoff has extensive experience in treating many types of burns including exposure to heat, chemicals, or electricity. Most thermal (heat) burns happen at home and can often be treated with antibiotic cream to prevent infection. Deeper or more complicated burns may require cleaning (debridement) and reconstruction. Dr. Chernoff uses a multi-modality approach for healing burns that involves growth factor treatments, advanced light-based therapies, topical gels and healing skin barriers.

Where Will the Reconstructive Surgery/Treatment Be Performed?

The location of treatment or procedure will be based on the type and severity of the injury. Some care can be performed in our office’s sterile procedure room. For more complicated cases, it is performed at our outpatient surgery center. Dr. Chernoff has been granted permission to perform emergency procedures like this in the surgery center – it is not a hospital-based surgery center; however, elective procedures have been required to stop. It is not considered elective if it’s an injury.

How Much Does Reconstructive Surgery/Treatment Services Cost?

Dr. Chernoff is not included in insurance networks. You will need to pay for your treatment at the time of service and then, you may submit to your insurance company for coverage.
